Open Source software is software with source code that anyone can inspect, modify or enhance. Programs released under this license can be used at no cost for both personal and commercial purposes. There are many different open source licenses but they all must comply with the Open Source Definition - in brief: the software can be freely used, modified and shared.

This license is commonly used for video games and it allows users to download and play the game for free. Basically, a product is offered Free to Play (Freemium) and the user can decide if he wants to pay the money (Premium) for additional features, services, virtual or physical goods that expand the functionality of the game. In some cases, ads may be show to the users.

Demo programs have a limited functionality for free, but charge for an advanced set of features or for the removal of advertisements from the program's interfaces. In some cases, all the functionality is disabled until the license is purchased. Demos are usually not time-limited (like Trial software) but the functionality is limited.

This software is no longer available for the download. This could be due to the program being discontinued, having a security issue or for other reasons.

DiskWarrior for Mac is a very handy application that allows you to recover the files and data from damaged directories with just a mouse click. You can recover the files safely like photos, music or videos from your corrupted hard disk as well as rebuild the damaged directory. You can also use DiskWarrior for Mac to eliminate the directory damage and securely recover your files, folders and documents. You can also download TinkerTool System for MacOSX.

DiskWarrior is a tool that enables users to recover lost data. But, there is a catch. People who operate Windows devices do not get to use this tool. It is only available for Mac devices, so if you have a Windows laptop, better look elsewhere for a solution. This tool can easily recover the files you deleted or lost but it is not free as many of its counterparts.

Disk Drill was developed by Cleverfiles. This software has a free version which is similar to the subscribed one in all aspects but one. The data recovery limit is set to 500MB in the free version. It is compatible with all devices, whether it is Mac or Windows.

Disk Genius is a good option for personal use. It has a free version that gives you access to most of the features required to recover files in a personal capacity and for small businesses. Although, this tool is not available to Non-Windows users.

While DiskWarrior is a good data recovery tool for Mac users; it is still not available for Windows devices. Disk Drill serves both Mac and Windows users. The free version of Disk Drill lets you use most of its features. Although you can only recover data up to 500 MB, after that you will have to buy Disk Drill at a reasonable cost. Its rival, DiskWarrior is relatively more expensive.

Download of DiskWarrior 5.2 for Mac was available from the developer's website when we last checked. We cannot confirm if there is a free download of this app available. The software relates to System Tools. This Mac application was originally developed by Alsoft Inc. Please check the Mac app with an antivirus before launch as it is downloaded from the developer's website, and we cannot ensure that it is safe.

Because DiskWarrior doesn't offer a free trial version, we had no other option but to purchase the full version. After completing our order, we were provided a download link and informed that we would also receive a copy of DiskWarrior on a USB flash drive within 1 or 2 business days.

Since we didn't want to wait for the USB flash drive to arrive, we downloaded the DiskWarrior installer using the provided download link. The installation process itself was painless, and we were ready to launch the software for the first time in no time.

One other thing...never could locate the S.M.A.R.T. info in my Disk Utility. Saw that mentioned several times in posts but it doesn't appear on my version. I did download an app called SMARTReporter and ran that. All indications were that my hard drive is OK.

I did boot from my Snow Leopard installer disc, yes. I didn't see any entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status in the Disk Utility interface though. That's why I downloaded the SMARTReporter app (which indicated no problem with the hard drive). After running Disk Utility Repair Disk I got the message:

Thanks for the info (you too Kappy). I'm going to try installing/upgrading TechTool Pro (and maybe Disk Warrior if I can, in fact, upgrade from 3.0.3 to 4.4 for free) before going this route. If those tools don't work I'll erase/restore before I buy more software.

PhotoRec is an open-source data recovery software. It is completely free to use and you get to recover an unlimited number of files. The only catch is you need to be familiar with the command-line user interface. But this is something that you can easily learn with a few online tutorials.

PhotoRec is a 100% free and clean data recovery software to recover videos, documents, archives and photos. And this is also the reason why PhotoRec is picked as the best free photo recovery software for mac. It is available on different platforms, including macOS, Windows, Linux, etc. Since the program is command-line based, you need to run with Terminal to do the photo recovery.

In fact, when comparing with other mac photo recovery software in my list, PhotoRec has no way to outperform others in performance, versatility and user experience. However, as far as I know, it is the only 1 100% free and safe program to recover photos on mac. So if you have photos in a small quantity that need to be recovered, it is worth a try.

OmniPresence is a legacy solution for syncing documents across devices. OmniPresence works on most web hosts, including macOS Server, which means you can store all of your data yourself, or you can pair it up with our own Omni Sync Server for free, secure syncing.Omni recommends syncing current versions of OmniOutliner, OmniGraffle, and OmniPlan via iCloud Drive. I really like OnyX as it does so much and it does it for free. It has been around for a long time and has a large user base that respects what this software can do. The developer shares the same name as me as well?

Thanks.EDIT: Would it be possible to use the InstallESD.dmg from a 10.9.2 installer to build a bootable USB drive to install 10.9.5?? Where to download mavericks dmg. I'm signed up as an Xcode developer (ha) so I should be able to get it from there if it's available, but haven't seen it. GetMyMacOn wrote:You can use OS X 10.6 or above to do the initial setup. You can not purchase Mavericks from the App Store if your machine is not already approved for an upgrade. If you did make a purchase already, then it will show up in your purchases tab where you can then re-download it.Otherwise you can download this Mavericks download enablerThis looked promising, but I couldn't get it to work (couldn't boot to the USB flash drive after restoring the image to it). The one I get from the AppStore does not have this, so I can't boot to it. Try single-quoting it').So, what I need is a full package installer of 10.9.5 with InstallESD.dmg in Contents/SharedSupport.

On the Air I can select the USB as the startup disk after restart and option key. After this the screen just appears to freeze with the Apple logo and does not progress. Any ideas how to fix this. I love DW as my go-to application for routine preventive maintenance.

Once you have downloaded and installed your software, you will typically need to activate it using your serial number (if you are not prompted during installation). Before the software is activated, it may function as a free trial.

Regardless of which method you use, please be sure to take note of your serial number before uninstalling if you do not have it recorded in another location. Serial numbers can be accessed through Start > All Programs > MacDrive > Help and Support > MacDrive Support Information. If you purchased MacDrive as a download from Mediafour.com, your serial number will also be on your Order Confirmation email.

Support for Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit) was released in MacDrive 8 and is also included in both MacDrive 9 Standard and MacDrive 9 Pro. A five day free trial of MacDrive is available if you would like to evaluate it before purchasing.

Downloads and copy operations (such as the back-ups that I did) will sometimes be fast and then become very slow and/or freeze for a couple of minutes. Sometimes they will then continue, sometimes not.

When you undertake this, make sure you have installation media, meaning a USB installer of El Capitan or Sierra. This means you would have to download it and create your USB installer before you do start this. Make sure you have: 2ff7e9595c
